Two more steps towards figuring out the Puccini link

The letter received in March from Archivio Storico Diocesano Lucca also shed some light on Giocondo Nannetti's maternal side on the family. Since I started to blog about this, that has been one of the mysteries I want to solve.
The new information tells us that Cleonice Nannetti's full name was Maria Cleonice Nannetti. She was born on October 20, 1811. Her parents were Giovanni Antonio Puccini and Bartolomea Antoni. Cleonice's paternal grandfather was Michele Puccini.

Cleonice Puccini married Costantino Nannetti on June 30, 1834 in Ghivizzano. The witnesses were Giuseppe Nannetti from Granaiola and Pellegrino Puccini from Ghivizzano.

The next step will be to contact again the Archivio Storico Diocesano Lucca and ask for more details on Cleonice's father and grandfather, Giovanni Antonio Puccini and Michele Puccini.

New Details on Costantino Nannetti

Costantino Nannetti, the father of Giocondo Nannetti was born on June 27, 1805. His parents were Pietro Nannetti and Elisabetta Simoni, both from Granaiola.
Costantino was born and baptized on the same day. His godparents were Angelo di Pierluigi Simoni and Maria Lucia di Pierluigi Simoni.

New findings on Giocondo Nannetti

This past week I received great news via some relatives who contacted the Archivio Storico Diocesano Lucca. It helped me correct some mistakes and shed some light on who Cleonice Puccini parents and paternal grandfather were. The following information is taken from a letter received in May 2012 from Archivio Storico Diocesano Lucca.

Giocondo Nannetti (b. 1840)
Son of Costantino Nannetti (b.1805) and Maria Cleonice Puccini (b.1811)
Grandson of Pietro Paulo Nannetti (b. 1774) and Maria Elisabetta Simoni (b. 1764)
Great grandson of Paolino Nannetti and Maria Martina Simoni.
Great great grandson of Vicente Nannetti
Great great great grandson of Simone Nannetti

Giocondo Nannetti was baptized privately and on the same day he was born since they thought he would not survive. His godparents were Regolo Desideri and Maria Petronilla Gerardi both from Granaiola.

Family Reunion in Lucca, summer of 2012

Hello all... We are thinking about getting together in Tuscany for a family reunion for the summer of 2012.

The idea is to spend time together and visit some sites of interest that relate to our genealogical ties to Granaiola, Lucca, the Nannetti and Puccini families, etc.

Other activities might be to share some great meals, enjoy life, learn more, see new things, and hopefully, hopefully, meet some new relatives even though they might be somewhat distant.

If we are lucky we will do all these things, take some great pictures and figure out exactly who our great/great/great/grand/whatever grandmother, Cleonice Puccini was, who her parents where, what her ties to the composer are, and why in the world didn't she keep a nice journal for all of us!

We hope to see you there. I understand that some of us (not me) already have tickets for the week of
Aug. 17 to 24 of 2012.

The Hotels that sound good from those who have made reservations are 1: The Park Hotel Regina or 2: A sister hotel, Albergo Ristorante Corona. The Park Hotel has a swimming pool that guests at the other hotel can use. The Corona has a restaurant that sounds really good. Both have free parking. They are about a 10 minute walk from each other so a combination of hotels could work for our group.

To make reservations see the TripAdvisor links for Park Hotel Regina or the sister hotel Albergo Ristorante Corona)

Please let me know if you are going to keep everyone informed of this fun trip!

Extract from "Our Life in two Continents" by Antonio José Cárdenas

Antonio José Cárdenas Nannetti wrote the following on his book titled: “Our Life in two Continents”

“My mother’s untimely death occurred on July 31, 1915, just 13 years before penicillin was discovered. She died at 33 years of age, of pneumonia, which was then considered incurable. Armida Nannetti was the daughter of an Italian immigrant who married a local Popayán girl.  Giocondo Nannetti was born in Bagni di Lucca in Northern Italy. In his youth he had fought with Garibaldi in the unification of Italy.  Giocondo later emigrated from his native country to the New World. After having tried his luck in Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina, he went all around the Continent until he reached the peaceful city of Popayán in southern Colombia. There “Don Yucundo”, as he was called by the natives, soon became one of the city’s popular characters, and eventually, he set up a little store, among other things, he imported olives and olive oil from Italy, and eventually, being a hard worker, he amassed a small fortune and became a rich man by local standards.

Father, who liked to play the piano, taught us a song in honor or Papa Yuco. It was the Garibaldi Anthem, which we sang in Italian. We loved to visit Papa Yuco in Bogotá, especially at lunchtime because he used to prepare special sangria for the boys: one finger red wine, the rest all water and sugar. The old man always felt more Italian than Colombian. He always mixed his Spanish with a few Italian words, and on Colombian national holidays he would always hang his Italian colors next to the Colombian flag.”
